General Manager - Business Development – Healthcare

About the Role

The General Manager – Business Development – Healthcare plays a crucial role in driving the growth of Noatum Logistics’ healthcare vertical within the UK business. This high-impact commercial position will focus on developing strategic new business opportunities by targeting healthcare clients for air, ocean, and road freight services across all major trade lanes.

As the subject matter expert, this role will collaborate closely with the Business Development Director and the wider commercial team to establish operational and commercial foundations, enhancing Noatum Logistics’ position as a trusted partner for healthcare organisations across the UK. You will bring business development expertise combined with deep healthcare-specific knowledge to deliver sustainable growth while consistently exceeding client satisfaction standards.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Growth & Business Development

  • Lead the overall growth strategy for Noatum Logistics’ healthcare vertical, focusing on customer qualification processes and new business opportunities to determine strategic Fit.
  • Responsible for upselling products and services to existing and potential customers within the healthcare vertical, ensuring profitability.
  • Own the healthcare opportunity assessment for all qualified leads, ensuring economic viability and alignment with Noatum Logistics’ winning strategy.

Major Account Development

  • Define and develop a strategic commercial approach for the healthcare vertical, including major opportunities requiring collaboration with Product teams to refine service capabilities, longer sales cycles, or RFQ responses.
  • Drive the UK vertical target account list in partnership with the Business Development Director, presenting business cases to support capital investment decisions with UK and Global leadership.

Pricing & Market Strategy

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to establish competitive pricing strategies, ensuring proposals are both profitable and customer-engagement-driven.
  • Ensure all healthcare engagements are tailored, compelling, and operationally deliverable, aligning closely with customers’ needs and industry trends.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Oversee the end-to-end healthcare opportunity pipeline, involving sales, account management, product, project, and multi-modal operational teams, including collaboration with global Noatum colleagues.
  • Champion Noatum’s digital transformation initiatives across air, ocean, and road logistics, aligning services with high-value customer needs.

Customer Engagement & Strategic Development

  • Leverage Noatum’s service ecosystem to optimise customer wins, ensuring sustainability and profitability in healthcare contracts.
  • Partner with the UK Leadership Team, including senior executives, to innovate new solutions, refine strategic direction, and boost volume-driven growth.
  • Oversee business handover documentation, participate in implementation meetings, and support ongoing commercial account management.

Networking & Compliance

  • Actively engage with trade associations and industry networks, representing the company while maintaining data integrity in CRM (including pipeline, customer profiles, and market intelligence).
  • Cultivate intensive client relationships, managing service optimisation, rate negotiations, contract retention, and problem resolution choices.

Essential Skills & Experience

Industry Knowledge & Experience

  • Strong background in business development, sales, or commercial leadership, with deep focus in the healthcare or life sciences sector.
  • Extensive network within the healthcare industry, reputation for building and influencing relationships at all levels (internal and external).

Business Acumen & Strategic Thinking

  • Exceptional commercial acumen and ability to manage financial decision-making.
  • Proven ability to identify new revenue streams and entrepreneurial solutions, including non-freight profit opportunities.
  • Demonstrated success in promoting positive cost reduction measures and customers-led growth strategies.

Stakeholder & Sales Management

  • Ability to indirectly lead high-performing teams to meet targets and deadlines.
  • Experience targeting and developing enterprise-level accounts, representing the company in senior leadership engagements (C-suite level).

Technical & Leadership Competencies

  • Strong working knowledge of supply chain management tools and logistics visibility applications to enhance value delivery.
  • Project, budget, and organisational management skills in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities simultaneously.

Professional Excellence

  • Must adhere to ethical standards in handling sensitive information and cultural diversity.
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal—now including being seen having defted with remonstrative clients.
  • CRM and data integrity management expertise to optimise lead tracking and pipeline performance.

Travel & Commitments

  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally as required.
