General Manager – Data, IT & Systems
Location: London Bridge (Hybrid: 3 days on-site) Reporting to: Commercial & Digital Director & Executive Leadership Team Transformation Role: Shaping Great British Railways, ensuring data, technology, and systems drive a modern, resilient railway.
What You’ll Do
As General Manager – Data, IT & Systems, your purpose is to lead Southeastern’s IT, systems, and data capability to future-proof our railway. You will:
Strategic Leadership
- Provide forward-thinking leadership across IT services, specialist railway systems, and data & analytics, ensuring alignment with national Great British Railways objectives.
- Define and deliver an integrated data and technology strategy, balancing:
- Operational resilience (e.g., managing a 24/7 environment)
- Innovation (transformation alongside daily operations)
- Shape industry data standards and influence national programmes, positioning Southeastern as a data-driven leader.
Technical & Operational Excellence
- steward a robust technology estate—Guaranteeing availability, security, and scalability of critical systems.
- Turn complex operational/commercial data into actionable intelligence for senior decisions.

- Collaborate closely with:
- Commercial & Digital Director
- Great British Railways stakeholders
- External suppliers, regulators, and industry bodies
- Prioritise ruthlessly, setting clear visions and roadmaps while differentiating between short-term needs and long-term transformation.
The Experience You’ll Need
We’re looking for someone who demonstrates proactive leadership and experience in:

Transformative Leadership
- Inspiring senior teams and driving multi-stakeholder change.
- Proven skills in negotiation and supplier management, navigating complex IT contracts.

Technical Expertise
- Hands-on experience with:
- Cloud platforms: Azure, AWS
- Analytics tools: Power BI
- Project methodologies: PRINCE2, Agile PM Scrum
- Frameworks: TOGAF, DAMA CDMP, ISO 27001 (or agile cybersecurity certs like CISM/CISSP)
- Service management: ITIL (essential)
- Hands-on experience with:

Data Storytelling & Business Insight
- Turning data into clear, compelling insights that influence decisions.

Strategic Business Partnering
- Trusted by executives to bridge technical and commercial challenges.

Qualifications & Relevant Background
- Formal qualifications/career foundation in IT, data, computer science, or industry-specific roles.

Soft Skills
- Visionary yet pragmatic —can transpire strategy into focused execution.
- A keen eye for systems resilience with railway experience a plus, but not essential.
