🎯 Purpose Of The Role
As General Manager, you will ensure the safe, efficient, and-time delivery of BAE Portsmouth Naval Base projects, balancing:
- Client expectations
- Company compliance (e.g., Integrated Management System: DMS)
- Budget control & operational excellence

Your responsibility includes:
- Client relationship management to drive contract retention and business growth.
- Adherence to enhancing consistency across all Portsmouth Naval Base facilities.
📌 Key Responsibilities
🏛 Leadership & Operations
- Establish and maintain efficient project systems in alignment with Denholm’s Integrated Management System (DMS).
- Lead safety, quality, environmental compliance, and performance across all project phases.
- Enforce a standardised approach to projects and disciplinary operations.
- Drive continuous improvement to optimise efficiency and operational excellence.
- Enable effective communication between management, teams, and stakeholders.
📅 Project Planning & Delivery
- Plan, programme, and resource work scopes to meet timelines and expectations.
- Demonstrate procurement, material reconciliation, and resource allocation capabilities.
- Monitor budget performance, commercial targets, and forecasts in close collaboration with Commercial Manager.
- Prepare and review progress reports, risk registers, and work scope forecasts for senior leadership.
- Ensure robust forward planning, including weekly progress reviews and future-based programming.
- Attend and chair internal and client meetings, ensuring action items are documented and followed.
- Deliver work packages as per project specifications, purchase orders, and regulatory standards.
- Manage project risks and stakeholder stakeholder engagement, coordinating with:
- Clients
- Project partners
- Ensure compliance with permanent & temporary design requirements.

⚠️ Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ)
- Champion the ‘A Positive Culture With Denholm’ (APCWD) ethos, embedding it within Denholm Portsmouth Naval Base.
- Lead HSEQ compliance, ensuring alignment with company procedures and an adherence to best practice.
- Assign HSEQ responsibilities, verify competency, and arrange necessary training programs.
- Conduct senior management site inspections and maintain up-to-date HSE documentation, audits, and reports.
- Develop, communicate, and implement Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), Method Statements, and quality procedures.
- Support internal and external audits, and lead root cause investigations using structured frameworks such as 8D & 5 Why processes.
- Ensure client specifications and quality standards are fully met across all disciplines.
🚀 Accountability
- Reports directly to the Director, holding overall accountability for:
- Safety
- Commercial performance
- Operational success for assigned projects.
- Manages all project stakeholders, internal and external, ensuring alignment between business objectives and client expectations.
- Ideal Candidate: Proximity to Portsmouth preferred (though relocation flexibility considered regarding travel arrangements).
