General Manager

Location: Thetford
Job Type: Full-time | Permanent
Salary: Competitive + Performance Bonus + Company vehicle

Lead the Next Phase of Our Growth

Are you a visible, dynamic leader with a track record of turning potential into performance? This is a rare opportunity to take full ownership of Uphire's growing powered access operations in Thetford.

As a fast-growing name in specialist equipment hire, Uphire is built on agility, premium fleet availability, and exceptional service. But we aren't looking for a caretaker manager to simply keep the wheels turning. We are seeking a hands-on change agent who will immerse themselves in day-to-day operations, identify opportunities for improvement, and drive meaningful transformation across every corner of the business—from the workshop floor and transport yard to overall P&L performance.

You’ll have genuine autonomy to challenge the status quo, reshape team culture, and build a highly profitable, best-in-class depot.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial & Growth: Formulate business growth strategies, expand local and regional market share, and maximise fleet utilisation and revenue.
  • P&L Ownership: Full accountability for P&L performance, improving margins, controlling costs, and driving overall commercial profitability.
  • Operational & Safety Leadership: Embed a proactive H&S culture across workshop, transport, and customer site operations. Ensure strict compliance with LOLER regulations, transport legislation, and Operator Licence requirements.
  • Team Development: Recruit, mentor, and empower cross-functional teams across sales, engineering, transport, and depot operations.
  • Customer & Asset Strategy: Build strategic B2B relationships, oversee fleet maintenance schedules, and inform capital investment to maintain high equipment availability.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
