General Merchandise Assistant
General Merchandising Assistant – Working in Our Stores
Our stores are fast-paced environments where no two days are ever the same. They’re at the heart of the local community, providing outstanding value, quality, and great service.
As one of our General Merchandising Assistants, you’ll ensure our homeware, clothing, and entertainment sections—including the Tu and Habitat brands—are always set up brilliantly for customers.
Eligibility Requirements
To apply for this role, you must:
- Be above the school-leaving age in your country (Government UK age guidance)
- Have the Right to Work in the UK
- Be at least 18 years old if shifts start before 6am or end after 11pm
Key Responsibilities

Product Display & Replenishment:
- Set up and organise Tu, Habitat, electrical, stationery, and entertainment products to create appealing displays for customers.
- Move stock as trends and seasons change, using heavy roll cages (up to 15kg) to replenish items across the department.

Customer Engagement:
- Build excellent product knowledge to confidently assist customers with recommendations.
- Proactively assist shoppers, answering questions and providing advice on a wide range of items.
- Represent Sainsbury’s gaming, fashion, and homeware expertise with enthusiasm.

Flexibility & Teamwork:
- Work across different store sections as required to support operational needs.
- Embody a customer-first mindset, ensuring all areas are clutter-free and organised.
