What you’ll be doing:
- Taking responsibility for the management of all non-food products, ensuring they are presented fantastically to delight our customers.
- Ensuring your area runs smoothly every day, from the shop floor to the warehouse.
- Managing people, which includes:
- Overseeing performance and capability
- Conducting disciplinaries
- Ensuring scheduling and pay accuracy
- Occasionally assuming overall responsibility for running the store, ensuring all colleagues receive direction and support to deliver outstanding customer experiences.
What makes a great General Merchandise Manager:
- Previous line management responsibilities in a fast-paced, operational environment.
- Someone who is truly obsessed with customers and service, and coaches their team to reflect this mindset.
- Ability to deliver KPIs or other performance indicators.
- Experience in managing disciplinaries, performance issues, or employee relations.
- Leadership experience in operational settings, capable of managing independently when necessary.

Essential Criteria:
- A track record of delivering exceptional customer experiences, with evidence of coaching others to consistently raise the bar.
- Experience leading teams in a dynamic, customer-facing environment, including:
- Inspiring others
- Driving high performance
- Creating a culture of thriving among colleagues
- Leadership experience in a high-volume, fast-paced operational setting (such as retail, food service, or hospitality), where you:
- Have overseen daily operations
- Solved business problems
- Kept teams focused on customer needs
- Proven success in delivering against a range of KPIs, including:
- Sales and stock availability
- Customer satisfaction
- Colleague engagement
- Making a measurable difference
- Experience managing complex people matters, including:
- Performance and absence management
- Formal employee relations cases, approached with confidence and fairness
