About The Role
Balfour Beatty's UKCS Living Places business has an exciting opportunity for a Highways Maintenance Operative to join our team in Lincolnshire.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll help maintain and improve the local highway network, ensuring roads, structures and associated assets remain safe, reliable, and fit for purpose. Working as part of a dedicated operational team, you’ll carry out a variety of maintenance activities that support the communities and businesses that rely on the county’s infrastructure every day.
You’ll play an important part in delivering high-quality services while maintaining the highest standards of safety, workmanship, and customer service.
Responsibilities
As a Highways Maintenance Operative, your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out a broad range of highway maintenance activities safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
- Undertaking drainage works, kerb laying, asphalt laying and compaction, excavation activities, and vegetation clearance.
- Completing general construction and grounds maintenance tasks, including brickwork, fencing repairs, and other associated works.
- Operating plant, machinery, and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Ensuring work is completed to required quality standards and right first time.
- Maintaining compliance with all health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Using materials, tools, and resources efficiently to support effective service delivery.
- Supporting emergency response activities and out-of-hours services when required.
- Building positive working relationships with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders.
- Identifying opportunities for improvement and contributing to the successful delivery of maintenance services.

Requirements
We’re looking for individuals who take pride in their work, put safety first, and enjoy working as part of a team in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
You’ll have:
- A full UK driving licence.
- A strong commitment to health and safety.
- Experience within highways maintenance, groundworks, construction, civil engineering, or a similar operational environment.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
- The flexibility to work overtime or shift patterns when required.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- A reliable, honest, and professional approach to work.
It would be advantageous if you also hold any of the following:
- EUSR Excavation qualifications.
- NRSWA accreditation.
- CSCS Highway Maintenance certification.
- Confined Space training.
- LGV Class 1 or Class 2 licence.
- Driver CPC qualification.
- Winter maintenance experience or qualifications.
- Telehandler training.
- Vacuum excavation experience.
