General Operative

About The Role

Balfour Beatty's UKCS Living Places business has an exciting opportunity for a Highways Maintenance Operative to join our team in Lincolnshire.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll help maintain and improve the local highway network, ensuring roads, structures and associated assets remain safe, reliable, and fit for purpose. Working as part of a dedicated operational team, you’ll carry out a variety of maintenance activities that support the communities and businesses that rely on the county’s infrastructure every day.

You’ll play an important part in delivering high-quality services while maintaining the highest standards of safety, workmanship, and customer service.

Responsibilities

As a Highways Maintenance Operative, your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out a broad range of highway maintenance activities safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
  • Undertaking drainage works, kerb laying, asphalt laying and compaction, excavation activities, and vegetation clearance.
  • Completing general construction and grounds maintenance tasks, including brickwork, fencing repairs, and other associated works.
  • Operating plant, machinery, and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Ensuring work is completed to required quality standards and right first time.
  • Maintaining compliance with all health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Using materials, tools, and resources efficiently to support effective service delivery.
  • Supporting emergency response activities and out-of-hours services when required.

  • Identifying opportunities for improvement and contributing to the successful delivery of maintenance services.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
