General Operative Groundworker

General Operatives (York-based) – Groundworker Gang Role

Welcome to JN Bentley! We are seeking enthusiastic and proactive General Operatives based in York to join our Groundworker gangs operating across the region.

About the Role

As part of this role, you will work within a gang across various construction sites, primarily within the water industry. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating effectively within a team environment
  • Developing expertise in general civils work, concreting, deep drainage, and pipe-laying
  • Maintaining a proactive approach to work and health and safety
  • Performing a variety of construction and groundwork tasks on industrial and commercial projects

Responsibilities

  • Undertake general civil engineering work including exavations, trenchworks, and site clearance
  • Perform concreting operations (e.g., lay, finish, strike, and compact concrete)
  • Excavate and lay drainage pipes (including deep drainage and sewerage systems)
  • Carry out pipelaying tasks, including managing trench support and pipe bedding
  • Follow environmental and safety regulations adhering to company and site-specific guidelines
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping across all sites

Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • Experience in general civils work, including:
    • Concreting
    • Excavations
    • Deep drainage
    • Pipe-laying
  • CSCS Touchscreen Card with a one-day Health and Safety Awareness course
  • Full driving licence (car or HGV preferable)

Advantageous

  • Completed or in progress:
    • CPCS, NOCN or NPORs plant tickets
    • Forward Tipping Dumper or Ride-on Roller tickets (training provided if needed)
    • National Water Hygiene Card
    • Slinger/Signaller certification
    • City & Guilds Confined Spaces qualification
