General Operative Groundworker – Christchurch Location
Here at JN Bentley, we are seeking enthusiastic, proactive, and health and safety-conscious General Operative Groundworkers based in the Christchurch area to join our existing teams. Successful applicants will form part of a ready-made gang and work across the water industry, performing a range of civil engineering tasks.
Lead Hand & Skilled Operative Applications
Applicants with Lead Hand or Skilled Operative experience should apply under the relevant role.
About the Role
You will work as part of a gang on various construction sites, with a predominant focus on water industry projects. Key tasks will include:
- General civils work
- Concreting
- Excavations
- Deep drainage
- Pipe-laying
Successful candidates will have:
- A proactive approach towards work and health and safety.
- Ideally experience in the aforementioned specialisms.
Candidate Specification
Essential Criteria
- Experience within a range of Civil Engineering, particularly:
- General civils work
- Concreting
- Deep drainage
- Pipe-laying
- Minimum formal qualifications:
- CSCS Touchscreen card
- 1-day Health & Safety Awareness course completion
- Driving Licence (essential)

Preferred Experience
- Current or aspiring CPCS / NOCN / NPORS plant tickets
- Advantageous but not mandatory:
- Plant tickets for:
- Forward Tipping Dumper
- Ride-On Roller
- Training provided if needed in these areas, where applicable
- National Water Hygiene Card
- Slinger/Signaller certification
- Confined Spaces (City & Guilds)
- Thames Water Passport
