Company Description

Duckworth Motor Group is a long-established, family-owned automotive retailer with roots dating back to 1962, originally specializing in Land Rover repairs. The business has grown steadily, becoming a full Land Rover retailer at its Market Rasen site in 1980 and expanding into Boston in 2007. In 2017, Duckworth opened a modern Boston site that now holds both Jaguar and Land Rover franchises, offering a premium sales and service environment. The original Kirton site has transitioned into Duckworth Select, focusing on the sale and service of quality used vehicles. Team members join a company that values heritage, customer service, and long-term relationships with clients and employees.

Role Description

The General Sales Manager role is a full-time, on-site position based at Duckworth Motor Group’s Boston location. The General Sales Manager oversees the sales department, including new and used vehicle sales, ensuring targets are met while maintaining a strong focus on customer satisfaction and brand standards.

  • Leading and coaching the sales team
  • Managing sales processes and performance metrics
  • Supporting pricing and stock decisions
  • Collaborating with other departments to deliver a seamless customer experience

This role also involves:

  • Reporting on sales performance
  • Implementing sales strategies aligned with Jaguar and Land Rover brand guidelines
  • Maintaining a positive, inclusive workplace culture

The General Sales Manager is expected to be a visible presence on the showroom floor, supporting team members and engaging directly with customers when needed.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in automotive sales management, including team leadership, performance management, and achievement of sales targets.
  • Strong skills in customer relationship management, negotiation, and delivering high-quality customer service in a retail or dealership environment.
  • Proficiency in sales forecasting, reporting, and use of dealership management systems or CRM tools.
  • Ability to develop and implement sales strategies, coach sales professionals, and drive continuous improvement in processes and results.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse colleagues and customers.
  • Solid organizational and time-management skills, including prioritizing tasks and managing multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of premium automotive brands, particularly Jaguar and Land Rover, and an understanding of the local market is highly beneficial.
  • Relevant experience in automotive retail and a track record of leadership; a formal qualification in business, management, or a related field is an advantage.
