General Sales Manager – Mercedes-Benz of Exeter Salary: Competitive + performance-led bonus | Location: Exeter


About the Role

We are seeking a proven General Sales Manager to lead sales performance at our flagship Mercedes-Benz dealership in Exeter. This is a critical leadership role, focused on driving volume, profit, and team performance in a fast-paced, premium brand environment.

The role requires maximising revenue opportunities, maintaining intensity across sales operations, and building a high-performing team that consistently exceeds ambitious targets.


Responsibilities

As General Sales Manager, you will own the entire sales function, ensuring accountability for:

  • Commercial performance
  • Stock management
  • Margin control
  • Team delivery

Key Duties Include:

  • Driving revenue through stock control, pricing optimisation, F&I maximisation, and customer conversion
  • Setting pace and standards to cultivate a high-performance culture with daily accountability
  • Leading, coaching, and developing your team to maximise individual and collective output
  • Analysing data and performance insights to identify gaps, act decisively, and drive improvements
  • Ensuring alignment with manufacturer standards while optimising commercial returns
  • Maintaining rigorous operational discipline across processes, compliance, and reporting

Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven leadership in automotive sales at General Sales Manager or Senior Sales Manager level
  • Track record of:
    • Consistently achieving sales targets
    • Maximising margin performance
    • High F&I penetration
  • Ability to drive energy and accountability across teams to heels over head
  • Strong commercial acumen, with deep knowledge of:
    • Dealership economics
    • Profit-lever opportunities
  • Resilience and pace to thrive in a target-driven, high-pressure setting
  • Expertise in stock-profile management, pricing strategy, and pipeline conversion
