Generator Service Engineer

Generator Service Engineer – South Midlands & South East Regions

We are now looking for a dedicated Generator Service Engineer to play a crucial role in delivering on-site services for our clients. Successful candidates will be highly skilled, self-driven, and versatile, working independently or as part of a team to meet customer demands and support our company objectives.

This role is designed for candidates based in or within a commute of Northampton, Milton Keynes, Bedford, London, Essex, or Kent for the South Midlands/South East regions, though there may be slight flexibility based on location.

Working Arrangements:

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (with a 30-minute lunch break)

Key Responsibilities

As a Generator Service Engineer, you will:

  • Conduct comprehensive generator servicing, including:
    • Oil and filter changes
    • Oil, fuel, and coolant sampling
  • Perform load bank testing on customer-owned units
  • Fault-find and diagnose both electrical and mechanical faults
  • Service and repair a range of generator brands, including:
    • Cummins, Perkins, Caterpillar, John Deere, Volvo, Scania, Iveco, and Dorman
  • Work on engines of all sizes: 2kVA to 2.5mVA
  • Carry out a full range of mechanical engine repairs, including:
    • Fuel pumps, belts, starter motors
    • Hoses, cooling systems, and AVM systems
    • Batteries, battery chargers, water jacket heaters, starter cables, and ignition switches
  • Work with control systems such as DSE, ComAp, and DEIF
  • Understanding generator changeover systems
  • Assist with:
    • Engine rebuilds/tatterson overhauls
    • Control panel upgrades/retrofits
    • Specialist projects, as required
  • Demonstrate expertise in both mechanical and electrical diagnostics

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience in generator servicing/periodical testing (P/T), or related power generation industry roles
  • Valid CSCS or ECS card
  • Ability to manage workload and prioritise tasks
  • Experience working both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a positive mindset
  • Self-motivated and willing to quickly learn, applying new knowledge effectively
  • Attention to detail and precision in works
  • Professional communication skills for customer liaison
  • Willingness to undertake additional training when required

Desirable:

  • Brand-specific certificate training (e.g., Cummins, Perkins, etc.)
  • Experience with controls systems (e.g., PU/PMS/PAS)
  • Electrical qualifications, such as:
    • City & Guilds
    • 17th/18th edition (IET Wiring Regulations)
