About the Role

Vital Power Group is one of the fastest-growing generator service solutions companies in the UK. Our vision is to redefine customer service standards in the critical power sector through honesty, integrity, and passion. As a forward-thinking team with ~70 employees and ambitious growth plans, we are seeking a Generator Service Engineer to join our operations.

Based in the South Midlands/South East regions (candidates near Northampton, Milton Keynes, Bedford, London, Essex, or Kent preferred), this role covers a diverse range of generator servicing responsibilities, both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Contract: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (including a 30-minute lunch break).

Key Responsibilities

  • Generator Servicing:

    • Perform all routine servicing tasks, including oil/filter changes and sampling of oil, fuel, and coolant.
    • Conduct load bank testing on customer-owned generator units.
  • Fault Diagnosis & Repairs:

    • Fault-find and diagnose mechanical & electrical issues across multiple generator/engine brands (e.g., Cummins, Perkins, Caterpillar, John Deere, Volvo, Scania, Iveco, Dorman).
    • Service engines ranging from 2kVA to 2.5mVA.
    • Execute repairs, including:
      • Mechanical (e.g., fuel pumps, belts, starter motors, cooling systems, AVMs).
      • Electrical (e.g., batteries, chargers, heaters, starters, control systems).
    • Troubleshoot switchgear, interlocks, and metering systems (e.g., DSE, ComAp, DEIF).
    • Oversee and assist with mechanical engine rebuilds, top-end overhauls, and control panel retrofits.
    • Support custom projects as needed.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
