We are seeking a dedicated Generator Service Engineer to join our on-site service team, assisting in business operations while meeting customer expectations and driving company goals.
Job Overview
This role is based in our South Midlands & South East regions, with a preference for candidates based in or near Northampton, Milton Keynes, Bedford, London, Essex, or Kent. Remoteness may be considered based on location flexibility. The position operates on standard Monday to Friday hours (08:00–16:30), including a 30-minute lunch break.
This is a hands-on technical role, requiring a high level of skill, professionalism, and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Generator Servicing – Execute oil/filter changes and oil, fuel, and coolant sampling.
- Load Bank Testing – Conduct testing on customer-owned generator units.
- Fault-Finding & diagnostics – Accurately identify and resolve both mechanical and electrical issues.
- Multi-Brand Expertise – Work on a range of generator/engine brands, including (but not limited to):
- Cummins, Perkins, Caterpillar, John Deere, Volvo, Scania, Iveco, Dorman (2kVA to 2.5mVA).
- Repairs & Maintenance – Execute and assist in:
- General engine repairs (mechanical & electrical)
- Fuel pumps, belts, starter motors, filtration systems, cooling systems
- Electrical systems (batteries, chargers, heaters, controls)
- Control system troubleshooting (e.g., DSE, ComAp, DEIF)
- Mechanical rebuilds/top-end overhauls & control panel upgrades.
- Project Support – Assist in other service projects as required.
- System Knowledge – Understand changeover systems and relevant controls.

Requirements
Essential
- Preferable (but not mandatory) past experience in generator servicing or power generation industry.
- Valid CSCS/ECS card (or equivalent work authorization).
- Ability to manage workload independently and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Strong team player & self-starter who can work both independently and collaboratively.
- Problem-solving attitude with a positive, resourceful mindset.
- Self-motivated with a quick-learning approach.
- Precision-oriented with a keen eye for detail and high accuracy standards.
- Flexible to undertake further training for professional development.
- Professional customer interaction skills.

Desirable
- Brand-specific generator training courses (especially on listed brands).
- Controls systems training (e.g., DSE, ComAp, DEIF).
- Electrical qualifications (City & Guilds 17th/18th Edition Wiring Regulations).
