About the Role

About Your Week

A typical week blends environmental science, technical precision and client leadership. Your key tasks include:

  • Supervising site work: • Bidding and implementing Phase 1 Desk Studies (research and reporting). • Designing and managing Phase 2 Field Investigations (soil sampling, subcontractor coordination, health/water risk assessment). • Complying with best engineering practices and Construction Design & Management (CDM) Regulations* under mentorship.

  • Production & delivery: • Receive reports for delegated compliance or direct impact, like revegetation schemes. • Fieldwork and measurements (soil logging, ground gas monitoring).

  • Collaboration: • Sit in on client meetings, project retrospectives, and cross-team training. • Account for site safety, workplace environment, and field workflow adherence.

Our geo-environmental division serves private and public sectors across:

  • Property
  • Government agencies
  • Energy
  • Industrial sectors
  • (Including nuclear safety)

Neutral Location

Your base will be the North of England:

  • Primary: Leeds (WSP’s Leeds Office).
  • Secondary: Newcastle. Open to national travels as projects demand.

What We Need to See

Experience

When we review your skills, expect to showcase experience in:

  • Fieldwork: Site investigations, sample logging, geotechnical testing, geo-environmental surveys.
  • Technical reports: Authoring Phase 1 Desk Studies, contamination investigations, and risk assessments.
  • Planning & Compliance: Designing site investigations (importance of GIS handling is a plus).
  • Risk & Legal: Understanding UK land contamination rules, CDM Regulations, and reporting standards.
  • Field certifications: Responses to perturbations (e.g., pollution incidence).
  • Organisation & Logging: Strong relationships with field data representation like: • Digital workflows (GIS desired). • Presenting concise, error-free documentation.
