Geo:Environmental Engineer – Durham, UK
Salary: GBP30,000 – GBP40,000 + Benefits Location: Durham, UK Company: Leading environmental and geotechnical consultancy expanding its Durham office
A fantastic opportunity to join one of the UK’s most prestigious environmental and geotechnical consultancies as a Geo:Environmental Engineer. You’ll work on contaminated land, brownfield redevelopment, and ground investigation projects across the North East and wider UK, working closely with industry-leading experts.
About the Role
We are seeking a self-motivated Geo:Environmental Engineer to play a vital role in delivering high-stakes projects. Your work will span the entire project lifecycle, from site investigations through to reporting and remediation support.
Collaborating with experienced environmental scientists, engineering geologists, and geotechnical engineers, you’ll contribute to technically challenging projects in the residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure sectors.

Responsibilities
Technical & Project Delivery
- Plan, supervise, and manage Phase 1 and Phase 2 site investigations
- Log soils and rock according to current standards
- Conduct soil, groundwater, and ground gas sampling and monitoring
- Schedule laboratory testing and interpret analytical data
- Prepare factual and interpretative geo:environmental reports
- Perform Preliminary Risk Assessments (Phase 1 Desk Studies)
Risk Assessment & Remediation
- Undertake Generic and Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessments
- Assist in designing and validating remediation strategies
Compliance & External Liaison
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
Requirements
- Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Geoscience, Engineering Geology, or a related discipline
- Experience within geo:environmental, contaminated land, or ground investigation roles
- Strong understanding of contaminated land legislation and risk assessment methodologies
- Experience supervising site investigations and contractors
- Robust report writing and communication skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Eligibility to work in the UK
