Geography Subject Lead – Ark Acton Academy
Role Overview
School: Ark Acton Location: London, Acton Salary: £41,328 – £65,000 (inclusive of TLR2A) Start Date: October 2026

The Role
As the Geography Subject Lead, you will:
- Deliver a knowledge-rich and inspirational Geography curriculum for KS3, while developing an engaging KS4 pathway that nurtures pupils' intellectual curiosity and potential.
- Teach highly effective lessons packed with rigorous content, ensuring all students reach their academic peak.
- Reflect constantly on your practice, sharing expertise and fostering growth within the geography team.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to elevate geographical education across the school, embedding the latest pedagogical research into classroom practice.
- Be passionate about democracy, human rights and the sustainability of our planet.
Key Responsibilities
Your core duties include:
✔ Curriculum Development & Delivery
- Design a dynamic and respected geography curriculum that aligns with Ark’s excellence framework and the latest National Curriculum requirements.
- Build a holistic KS4 pathway for pupils, ensuring ambitious progress drivers and embedding with remotivation journeys.
- Refine and expand KS3 geography, giving younger students influence through SOS (Student-led Outcome Study), where pupils generate their own learning opportunities.
- Develop and lead sterreich혔다eforework plans for key topics, ensuring depth and retention.
✔ Instructional Leadership
- Teach high-quality geography lessons with a focus on long-term retention and engagement.
- Establish a data-driven culture, using progress monitoring and pupil feedback to refine teaching strategies.
- Mentor and support NQTs during their induction, offering peer-led guidance and professional insight.
✔ Team Collaboration
- Work closely with the Head of Humanities and CLB to plan interdisciplinary units that connect geography with history and modern languages.
- Lead the Humanities faculty in practice, sharing diagnostic tools and reflective methodologies for continuous improvement.
- Support subject teachers in achieving high standards through observational teaching practices and progress tracking.

✔ Leadership & Accountability
- Ensure geography maintains its position as a confident and ambitious subject, embedding national and global viewpoints into teaching where relevant.
- Support the Head of English in six weekly beehive subjects hold-outs, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration and intellectual growth.
- Stay up to date with research-based pedagogical practices in geography, implementing new strategies that increase student engagement and achievement.
