An opportunity has arisen in our busy Geomatics department. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate extensive experience of geomatics, both officed based and in the field, who are able to diligently capture, process and analyse spatial data. You must have experience of a wide range of project types as well as use of GNSS systems, total station, photogrammetric survey methods, and CAD and GIS software for data processing and analysis. You will have a good understanding, and significant experience of, professional archaeological fieldwork within the UK or Irish commercial environment as well as the Health and Safety legislation relevant to it. You will need to be a confident problem solver with strong communication and interpersonal skills, and with a commitment to engaging the wider community in aspects of our work. A higher degree in archaeology, geomatics or related earth science discipline will be highly advantageous, as will membership of CIfA at an appropriate level.

Note that positions are initially expected to be working away from Oxford over the course of 18 months, although there are likely to be opportunities for rotation as required.
Position Requirements
An in-depth knowledge of GIS, spatial analysis and at least one spatial software suite is essential, including ArcGIS. Experience of taking responsibility for large or complex pieces of work, such as organising survey teams and control of spatial data workflows for multiple or large sites as well as creating suitable spatial methodologies in conjunction with project managers. A thorough understanding of the needs and priorities of commercial clients and an awareness of budgets and cost analysis. A rigorous knowledge of geomatics including techniques for metric site, earthwork and building survey, different techniques for handling and visualising spatial data, uses and limitations of different data types, data suppliers and digital copyright. Experience using survey grade GNSS, total stations and photogrammetry for large scale archaeological survey, the skills to process data in ArcGIS, AutoCAD, QGIS, Reality Capture and AgiSoft software and knowledge of Leica hardware and software. The ability to take a lead role in performance monitoring and training of staff as well as providing remote technical assistance and troubleshooting. The ability to contribute to and author unpublished (grey literature) site reports and contribute to academic publications. A full clean driving licence is essential. A CAA approved UAV pilot licence is also desirable for this post, as is experience of SfM photogrammetry and LiDAR using UAVs. Part time work may be considered for the right candidate.

Competitive salary range £36,837 to £42,640 (appointments will be made on the basis of demonstrated ability, previous experience and CIfA membership if appropriate). Generous annual leave with 24-26 days holiday (depending on years of service) plus bank holidays and concessionary days at Christmas. A company pension scheme with 6% employer contributions. Employees with ten years of employment or in project management roles gaining access to Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), which is one of the few remaining defined benefit schemes in the UK. Subsistence payment of £23.50 per night (tax free) and free, no sharing single rooms (usually B&B or self-catering) for away-based projects. 5-hour (basic) week with optional paid overtime at time and a half for hours in-excess of 37.5 hours Monday-Friday and on Saturdays, and double time on Sundays and bank holidays. The standard day includes 40 minutes paid break, in addition to an unpaid lunchbreak. Paid travel time for journeys to site that take longer than one hour from the office and free transport from regional offices to sites. Free high quality personal protective equipment (inc. full breathable waterproofs, fleece etc). Comprehensive care for employee welfare through a number of policies, including: the AXA Health Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) Premier, generous paid sick leave, a network of mental health first aiders. We pay 100% of CIfA subscription fees. Cycle to work scheme. Free DSE eye test with a voucher towards VDU-only glasses (via Specsavers) where required.
