We have an exciting opportunity for a Geophysical Field Technician to join our expanding geophysics team based in Helsby.
This is an ideal role for a motivated graduate or early-career geophysicist seeking hands-on, technically challenging fieldwork across the UK. The position is strongly focused on practical geophysical site investigations, outdoor survey operations, buried utility mapping, and the collection of high-quality geophysical data, with opportunities to develop into data processing, interpretation, and project delivery over time. Good communication skills are needed, the candidate must work well within a team environment and be self-motivated.
This Role Will Particularly Suit Candidates Who
- Hold (or are predicted to achieve in 2026) a 2:2 degree or above in geophysics or a related geoscience discipline
- Enjoy regular outdoor, physically demanding, and technically varied site work
- Are strong communicators and team players
- Have good self-motivation and organisational skills
- Demonstrate a good awareness of health and safety practices
- Are seeking to work with one of the UK’s leading near-surface geophysics consultancies

The Geophysical Field Technician Role
The successful candidate will play an active role in a wide range of geophysical and utility surveying projects, with a strong emphasis on field operations and technical site delivery. Good communication skills are needed, the candidate must work well within a team environment and be self-motivated.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Extensive site-based data acquisition using:
- Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)
- Electrical conductivity mapping
- Resistivity systems
- Magnetometry
- Microgravity
- Seismic techniques
- Undertaking geophysical and PAS128 utility surveys across the UK
- Inspection cover lifting, service tracing, and buried utility detection
- Electromagnetic locators Using tracer cables, sondes, and electromagnetic locating systems
- Operating high-precision GPS and total station survey equipment
- Collecting, recording, and managing accurate site notes
- Supporting equipment maintenance, calibration, and store management
- Travelling nationwide to support projects and operational requirements
