Geotechnical Engineer – PT Site Investigation Engineer (Coventry/Leeds)

About SEP Geotech

Creating a safer railway through progressive delivery: SEP Geotech is a recently established geotechnical site investigation company operating across the UK. As part of the wider SEP Group—working closely with SEP Rail Services and SEP Rail Design—we provide integrated geotechnical solutions for rail and infrastructure clients.

About the Role (PT Site Investigation Engineer – Full-time)

We are seeking a disciplined and energetic PT Site Investigation Engineer to join our team. This role will involve planning, supervising, and executing site investigations, preparing factual and interpretative reports, and supporting project teams with geotechnical data interpretation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and oversee field investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
  • Supervise field crews, ensuring correct methods and recording of data, while maintaining H&S standards.
  • Monitor and assist in establishing soil and rock logs as per UK best practice.
  • Prepare factual logs and interpretative geotechnical reports, meeting project requirements.
  • Provide limited contributions to foundation/wax accumulator design and ground improvement solutions.
  • Liaise with clients, internal teams, and contractors to resolve issues and ensure investigations meet specifications.
  • Participate in project planning, data QA/QC, and quality assurance.
  • Develop technical learning for the team.

Salary & Working Arrangement

  • Competitive salary (£37,500 p.a.)
  • A hybrid working arrangement, with up to 2 days WFH
  • On-call field site work

Requirements

  • Demonstrate competence in geotechnical site investigation, including planning, supervision, and reporting.
  • applicable to site investigation methods and safety regulations.
  • Ability to contribute to foundation and ground improvement design challenges.
  • Methods/Geology qualification (BSc or above in Civil, Geotechnical Engineering, or Engineering Geology).
  • Practical experience with UK geotechnical standards and health & safety requirements.
  • Proficient technician reviewers for entry-level engineers, batching, Excel/SIGMA reports, and GSW/BGA standards.
  • Towable portfolio/quality website for showcasing experience.
  • Full UK driving license required (UK site areas covered, overseas work reliance on stipulations).
  • Core to the ICE/GS (IGC) and/or a second discipline requirements or tenure aligned with chartered aspirations.
