Role Description

The Geotechnical / Geo-Environmental Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in the Derby or Coventry area. In this position, the engineer will undertake geotechnical and geo-environmental investigations to support the design, construction, and maintenance of water and wastewater infrastructure.

Day-to-day activities include:

  • Planning and supervising site investigations
  • Analyzing ground and contamination data
  • Reviewing technical reports
  • Advising on ground conditions and design constraints

The role involves collaborating with internal project teams and external consultants and contractors to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective solutions, while integrating environmental considerations into project planning. The engineer will also contribute to risk assessments, support project delivery through all stages, and help drive continuous improvement in engineering standards and sustainability practices.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess skills in environmental compliance and environmental consulting to ensure projects meet regulatory requirements and best practice standards.
  • A relevant engineering degree (e.g., Geology, Civil, Geotechnical, Environmental Engineering) or closely related discipline, with experience in geotechnical and geo-environmental investigations.
  • Proficiency in interpreting ground and preparing clear technical reports and recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work safely on-site and collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Chartership or working toward professional registration (e.g., with GeolSoc, ICE, or similar bodies) is an advantage.
