Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist – Inpatient Dementia Service

Job Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist to join a permanent inpatient service specializing in the care of older adults with dementia.
This is a replacement consultant post with responsibility for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients admitted to a specialist dementia inpatient ward. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and high-quality psychiatric care while working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.
The role is initially offered at 6 Programmed Activities (PAs), with additional community responsibilities available for candidates who wish to work full-time (up to 10 PAs).

- Provide consultant-level clinical care for patients admitted to the dementia inpatient ward.
- Undertake psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management of older adults with complex mental health needs.
- Provide clinical leadership and supervision to the multidisciplinary team.
- Support safe, effective, and evidence-based patient care.
- Work collaboratively with doctors, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and maintaining high standards of clinical practice.
- Support junior medical staff through supervision and teaching.
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- GMC registration and appropriate psychiatric qualifications.
- Specialist experience in Old Age Psychiatry / Older Adult Mental Health.
- Experience managing patients with dementia and complex psychiatric presentations.
- Consultant-level experience or be a Higher Specialty Trainee within the final six months of training and preparing for CCT.
- Strong clinical leadership skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care.
