GI Model Validation Actuary
Continue to develop your General Insurance (GI) actuarial career, leading the delivery of model validation for a market-leading Financial Services provider. Shape strategy and drive best practice in model risk management, gaining broad exposure to emerging areas such as AI. Hybrid working on offer – up to 80% of your time working from home, with one day a week at our Head office in Stratford Upon Avon – thanks to a supportive, award-winning culture.
About the Role
As a GI Model Validation Actuary at NFU Mutual, you play a key role in leading how model validation is delivered across the organisation. Working within a growing Model Risk capability, you help ensure that critical business models, including the Internal Model used for regulatory capital, remain robust, compliant and aligned to industry best practice.
- You shape and evolve model validation strategy while supporting NFU Mutual’s long-term objective of sustainable and profitable growth. This includes leading validation activity, enhancing technical processes and delivering clear insight to support senior decision making.
- You work on project-based validation activity, reviewing complex models over defined periods and building strong relationships across other Risk and Data teams. Your role offers exposure to a broad stakeholder network, enhancing both your technical expertise and influence.
- This role plays a key part in shaping and evolving the organisation’s internal model validation strategy, alongside the validation of other critical business models, ensuring approaches remain aligned with statutory requirements and changing stakeholder needs. You will lead the delivery of model validation activity to meet regulatory expectations, whilst producing clear and insightful management information to support senior decision-making.
- Acting as a delegate for the Head of Model Risk, you will provide leadership and oversight across all aspects of model validation and model risk, stepping in as required to ensure continuity and strong governance.
- You will build and maintain influential relationships with key internal stakeholders as well as external industry bodies such as the IFoA, PRA and ABI, helping to align best practice and stay close to emerging developments. You will act as a subject matter expert, supporting colleagues through training and sharing knowledge on evolving regulatory expectations, model validation techniques and developments in data science and AI. Alongside this, you will support the delivery of short-term projects and wider activities, contributing flexibly to the evolving priorities of the function.

About You
- You are a qualified actuary with a fellowship qualification such as FIA or FFA and strong experience in General Insurance and model validation.
- You combine deep technical expertise with the ability to think strategically and communicate complex concepts clearly to senior stakeholders.
- You are able to demonstrate excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including prior experience working with senior audiences.
- To join NFU Mutual, you’ll also bring:
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements for internal model approval and governance
- Experience applying model validation techniques such as stress testing and analysis of change
- A strong understanding of capital management, reserving methods and actuarial modelling
- A track record of planning and delivering complex actuarial projects
- Up-to-date knowledge of model risk management, data science, machine learning, and AI
