Redwood is very excited to be partnering with a leading international academic publisher to find a talented Global Acquisitions Director, Physics, to lead the strategic development of content acquisition across the company’s global publishing portfolio, focusing on Physics.
This is a full-time permanent position working either hybrid or remote, but candidates must be based in the UK.
About the Role
The Global Acquisitions Director will be responsible for:
- Identifying, evaluating, and securing high-quality manuscripts, book proposals, and academic content that align with the company’s editorial vision and market goals.
- Developing and maintaining a strong professional network within the field.
- Guiding the acquisition strategy for academic books, journals, and digital content.
This is a strategic hire demanding someone with established connections and expertise in Physics acquisitions.

Key Responsibilities
The Global Acquisitions Director, Physics will:
- Develop and implement acquisitions strategies for academic books, journals, and digital content.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with authors, researchers, academic institutions, and thought leaders.
- Evaluate proposals and manuscripts for quality, relevance, and market potential.
- Collaborate with marketing, production, and editorial teams to ensure smooth and successful publications.
- Lead a team of acquisition editors and production editors.
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and emerging research areas to guide acquisition priorities.
- Negotiate publishing contracts and manage author onboarding processes.
Requirements
To excel in this role, candidates need:
- A degree or higher in Physics or a related subject.
- A minimum of 7+ years of experience in acquisitions or editorial roles within scholarly publishing, specifically in Physics.
- A proven track record in acquiring Physics titles, with deep subject knowledge and a focus on book publishing.
- A strong ability to acquire content and manage author relationships.
- Broad understanding of academic publishing trends and markets.
- Leadership experience in fast-paced, high-impact publishing environments.
