Some careers open more doors than others.

If you’re looking for a career that will unlock new opportunities, join HSBC and experience the possibilities. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

This is HSBC’s enterprise leadership role for the transition of agriculture, land use and food value chains. You’ll help shape commercial strategy, deepen engagement with priority clients globally, and drive execution of HSBC’s Net Zero Transition Plan—helping deliver commercial growth, risk resilience, and measurable sustainability outcomes, while supporting delivery against HSBC’s public climate commitments.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you will:

  • Act as HSBC’s global authority on sustainable agriculture, land use and food systems, shaping strategic priorities, advising executive stakeholders, and influencing delivery of the bank’s commercial sustainability strategy and external market positioning.
  • Drive the global client transition agenda for sustainable agriculture, land use and food systems, setting commercial priorities across sub-sectors and markets (within risk appetite) in partnership with bankers and regional leadership.
  • Deepen client engagement and originate opportunities to accelerate decarbonisation across target sectors and markets, including emissions reductions from land-use change and food value chain transformation.
  • Drive execution of the bank’s Net Zero Transition Plan for the sector, working with the Group Head of Climate Transition and Chief Sustainability Officer, and providing leadership to an international network of subject matter experts and regional colleagues.
  • Lead HSBC’s external positioning on sustainable agriculture, land use and food systems, including senior engagement with governments, regulators and multilaterals to unlock bankable frameworks and investment pipelines, and building strategic partnerships with NGOs, investors, academia and industry groups.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
