Global IT Systems Manager – Buro Happold

This exceptional Global IT Systems Manager role offers the opportunity to be based in our Bath, London, Leeds, or Manchester office on a hybrid working model.

About the Role

As a global multidisciplinary consultancy, Buro Happold delivers innovative solutions that transform the built environment and tackle some of the world’s most challenging problems. We are searching for an outstanding Global IT Systems Manager to lead the Software and Systems Team, driving governance, optimisation, and strategic management of technology platforms used globally.

Reporting directly to the Global Head of IT Operations & Infrastructure, you will:

  • Serve as a key member of the IT Management Team, overseeing the quality, compliance, and delivery of software and systems services across the Buro Happold Practice.
  • Lead a team of eight specialists, ensuring our software estate remains well-governed, commercially efficient, and aligned with business priorities.
  • Steer strategic initiatives, risk management, process improvements, and provide clear visibility into software performance, usage, value, and costs.
  • Create a trusted software environment that bolsters productivity while ensuring strong governance, compliance, and commercial effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a global team of Software and Systems specialists
  • Own governance, quality, and delivery of software and systems services across all business areas
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, translating business objectives into technical solutions
  • Manage workloads and allocate team resources to strategic priorities
  • Enhance software asset management, licensing compliance, and lifecycle management
  • Develop clear reporting and dashboards for software utilisation, adoption, costs, and risk indicators
  • Contribute to and lead IT projects and strategic initiatives operationally
  • Oversee supplier performance and negotiate contracts and commercial agreements
  • Establish robust governance frameworks for software, AI technologies, and emerging digital tools
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate operational, commercial, and technological risks
  • Champion continuous improvement in systems, processes, and service delivery

About You

This role is ideal for an experienced IT leader who combines strong commercial awareness with exceptional people management and stakeholder influence skills.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Demonstrable leadership experience in global IT teams within a complex, multi-national organisation
  • Expertise in software asset management, licensing, compliance, and cost-optimisation strategies
  • Proven track record of delivering IT projects and business transformation through high-performance teams
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, contracts, and software estates at large scale
  • Solid understanding of IT governance, risk and compliance, including SaaS and emerging technologies (e.g., AI)
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft 365, Windows environments, and ITIL frameworks
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven mindset
  • Capacity to operate effectively in fast-paced, evolving environments
  • Degree qualification or equivalent professional experience; a relevant IT qualification (e.g., ITIL) or equivalent is desirable
