About the Role
Our client, a leading FinTech firm, is seeking a Global Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Lead to rally a 20+ strong team of globally distributed SREs. Your mission: optimise platform uptime by designing scalable, resilient infrastructure while fostering a culture of observability, reliability, and continuous improvement.
This strategic and hands-on role demands financial services/Trading domain expertise, strong people management skills, and the ability to lead at scale. Your responsibilities will straddle both high-level SRE strategy and practical incident response—balancing culture, stakeholder dynamics, and rapidly evolving technical demands.
You’ll be highly involved in key incidents, providing critical escalation support when needed, while taking ownership of intervention strategies to minimise future disruption.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and drive a global SRE strategy aligned with business goals, balancing cost optimisation and reliability targets.
- Oversee a team accounting >20 SREs across multiple geographies, promoting autonomous growth whilst maintain strong cohesion and shared SRE practices.
- Collaborate with business leaders (Trading, Product, etc.) to champion reliability as a core competency and drive cultural alignment.
Platform Reliability
- Ensure 99.9%+ SLA compliance, with measurable improvements in MTTR (Mean Time to Recovery) and MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures).
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) workshops for critical incidents to prevent recurrence, documenting recurrence patterns and mitigation releases.
- Flag emerging technical debt and orchestrate remediation plans without overly narrowing operational flexibility.

Incident Response
- Active participation during major incidents at an operational level before escalating to directors-up.
- Own escalation response marshaling, including coordination of cross-team throughput, internal regional complications, and compliance соответствии.
- Champion post-incident reviews to turnover into actionable short- and long-term improvements (e.g., dashboard visibility gaps, process gaps).
Technical Expertise
- Build and refine platform observability, distinguishing SLA breaches and latent organisational risks via metrics, logs, and snags.
- Play an active role in infrastructure transformations (e.g., containerisation, CI/CD modernisation) while maintaining backwards compatibility where necessary.
- RISE above infrastructure-centric pingpong; your styleshould contribute long-term impact with an eye on money, reliability, and expansive scale.
- Supplements technical decisioning with controlled disruptive engineering to budget for optimisations.
Required Experience
- Proven track record managing >20 SREs across remote/distributed environments (teammates in London, Tokyo, and potentially more).
- First-hand experience in a Trading/Financial Services SRE environment where reliability impacts millions of real-time trading transactions.
- Deep expertise in a minimum two of:
- Core base (Linux) & virtualisation
- IaC tools (Terraform/, Helm, Ansible, Pulumi, Bicep)
- Container orchestration (Kubernetes/Docker/Podman)
- CI/CD and id automation systems (Jenkins, ArgoCD)
- DR/Disaster Recovery architectures
- Block storage (Azure Blob/NetApp) or object storage optimisations.

- Technical itself strong in one or more additional provisions of:
- Setting up and troubleshooting infrastructure at scale 500+ Geo-nodes
- Logging/APM/DAPR practices including centralised tracing
- Modernise security: Zero Trust, patch management, align security reps.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts transparently to business stakeholders.
Bonus Considerations
- Experience with HPC (High-Performance Computing), especially in Finance/Trading R&D.
- Fluency in Python/SRE scripting where manual orchestration is impractical.
- Proven ability to drive operational efficiency improvements against strict cost benchmarks.
