Golang Engineer - United Kingdom

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Golang Engineer based in the United Kingdom.

About the Role

This role offers the opportunity to build and scale high-performance systems using Go within a globally distributed, fully remote engineering organization. You will contribute to core infrastructure and open-source driven products that power enterprise, cloud, AI, and IoT ecosystems worldwide.

  • The environment is highly collaborative, involving engineers, community contributors, and cross-functional teams across multiple time zones.
  • You will work on systems that emphasize performance, security, and reliability at scale.
  • The role encourages ownership, from design and development through to deployment and operations in some cases.
  • It is well-suited for engineers who enjoy solving complex distributed systems challenges and improving engineering practices continuously.
  • You will be part of a culture that values technical excellence, autonomy, and continuous learning in a remote-first setup.

Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain robust, well-documented software systems using Golang, ensuring high performance and reliability.
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve production and user-facing issues across distributed systems and services.
  • Participate actively in code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical design processes with global engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external contributors to define and refine technical specifications and system improvements.
  • Contribute to operational excellence by improving engineering workflows, deployment processes, and system observability.
  • In certain cases, deploy, monitor, and operate services owned by the team in production environments.
  • Support product success through technical advocacy, documentation, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • Strong academic background in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related STEM field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience designing and building production-grade software in Golang, ideally in Linux-based environments.
  • Deep familiarity with Linux systems (Ubuntu or Debian preferred) and strong command of system-level concepts.
  • Experience with distributed systems, APIs, and scalable backend architectures (especially for senior-level roles).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with a track record of delivering high-quality work independently and on schedule.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to collaborate across global teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, curiosity, and a proactive, ownership-driven mindset.
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally twice a year for team gatherings.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Ubuntu ecosystem tools such as Juju, LXD, MicroK8s, Snapd, Ubuntu Core, or Ubuntu Pro.
  • Performance tuning and security expertise.
