A great day out shouldn’t cost the Earth — help grow a national movement for car-free leisure.
Good Journey is looking for two passionate individuals who share our belief that everyone should be able to access culture, heritage and nature without needing a car to join our volunteer board of directors.
About Good Journey
Good Journey is a small not-for-profit Community Interest Company championing car-free leisure travel across the UK and delivering the change needed to reduce carbon emissions produced by leisure travel. Our vision is to transform leisure travel across the UK so that more people choose car-free days out, the impacts of traffic are reduced and everyone can enjoy leisure, culture and nature without needing a car.
We are delivering change through our B2B membership and partnerships schemes and consultancy with tourism attractions and businesses, local authorities, Destination Organisations, plus organisations like the Royal Horticultural Society, the National Trust, English Heritage and Historic Environment Scotland. Together we promote, incentivize and make it easy for people to choose to travel car-free whether by train, bus, bike and foot for their days out and UK based holidays.
Our website goodjourney.org.uk provides the public with easy-to-follow car-free travel directions and discounts to over 500 attractions and places to stay across the UK, powered by integrated journey planning technology from our core partner Traveline.
Our Impact
Around 60% of a visitor attraction’s Scope 3 CO2 emissions come from visitor travel. Good Journey’s pioneering work across the U.K tackles this challenge head-on. We have been grateful to receive grant funding from the Foundation for Integrated Transport and Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. And are proud winners of the Best Decarbonising Leisure Travel category at the 2026 Decarbonising Transport awards, demonstrating the strength and importance of our work in sustainable travel.

Board Director Opportunities
We are seeking two mission-led, collaborative individuals to join our board of directors. These are unpaid, strategic volunteer roles requiring approximately 3 remote meetings per year plus 1 in-person meeting.
We welcome both first-time board members and experienced directors. What matters most is your passion for sustainable travel for leisure and your commitment to our mission.
Role 1: Board Director with fundraising experience
Key skills and experience:
- Track record of successful fundraising for CICs, charities or social enterprises
- Experience with grant applications and trust/foundation fundraising
- Understanding of diverse income streams (grants, earned income, partnerships)
- Strategic thinking about sustainable funding models
- Passion for sustainable travel and environmental causes and a shared belief that everyone should have access to culture, leisure and nature, without needing a car.
You might be:
- A fundraising professional in the charity sector
- A trustee/director with proven fundraising experience
- Someone who has successfully secured grants for social purpose organisations
- A development director or head of fundraising looking to contribute your expertise
Role 2: Board Director with digital and commercial scaling experience
Key skills and experience:
- Experience scaling digital products, platforms or online services
- Commercial acumen and business development expertise
- Understanding of B2B models, partnerships and revenue growth
- Digital strategy and product development knowledge
- Passion for sustainable travel and social impact

Time Commitment
- 3 online board meetings per year
- 1 in-person board meeting per year
- Occasional email consultations between meetings
- Preparation time for meetings, for example reading of board papers
- Optional involvement in specific projects or working groups
