Google Workspace & IT Support Engineer

We are supporting a well-established organisation in Sussex with the appointment of a hands-on Google Workspace & Business Systems Engineer on a freelance/contract basis.

This is a part-time, predominantly onsite role, likely to require around two days per week. It would suit someone who combines strong 1st and 2nd line IT support capability with an interest in improving systems, automating processes, and solving broader operational technology problems.

Role Overview

The environment is primarily Google Workspace, but the organisation still has a number of processes and third-party systems that were originally designed around Microsoft products.

You will help the business understand how these workflows can be replaced, redesigned, or integrated effectively within its current technology environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide responsive 1st and 2nd line IT support to users across the organisation.
  • Administer and troubleshoot Google Workspace applications and user accounts.
  • Resolve day-to-day hardware, software, access, and connectivity issues.
  • Investigate business processes that currently depend on Microsoft products or incompatible legacy systems.
  • Design practical, repeatable alternatives using Google Workspace, automation tools, or suitable third-party platforms.
  • Support the integration of systems that produce files, emails, or data in formats that do not work effectively within the current environment.
  • Identify recurring support issues and introduce processes or automation to reduce manual work.
  • Document solutions, workflows, and support procedures.
  • Contribute to broader internal technology and business systems projects.
  • Work closely with users to understand the underlying business requirement rather than simply resolving the immediate ticket.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience with Google Apps Script, APIs, low-code automation platforms, or SaaS integrations would be particularly useful, although it is not essential.

The Opportunity

This is not a traditional helpdesk-only position.

Alongside reactive IT support, you will be given ownership of proactive projects that improve how the organisation uses technology. You will have the opportunity to identify inefficient processes, recommend better solutions, and implement changes that have a visible operational impact.

The engagement is expected to be part-time or freelance, with regular onsite attendance required in Sussex.
