I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

ILA is not a home care provider, but a personal assistance agency rooted in the Disabled People’s Movement. ILA services are peer-led and grounded in the fundamental principle that Disabled people manage the services that they receive, in line with the social model of disability as opposed to the outdated and oppressive medical model which positions Disabled people as passive recipients of care. ILA’s approach ensures that choice, control and autonomy remain with the Disabled person - not the service provider.

This is a new role at ILA and will initially involve implementing change with the introduction of electronic monitoring for compliance with the Care Standards Act. It is exciting and will involve continuously reflection to ensure ILA has a system that both works but is also inline with ILA’s philosophy of user control and the independent living movement. Once established, which we believe will take 12 months, the role will be to continually monitor and update the information to ensure ILA excels as an example of how personal assistance can be delivered to meet people’s requirements and expectations.
