The opportunity
Apprenticeship – September 2026
The Governance Officer Apprentice will support the Deputy Company Secretary and wider Company Secretarial team in delivering company secretarial and governance services to the Openwork Group. This is a development role, designed to build practical experience across:
- Board and committee administration
- Statutory filings
- Maintenance of corporate records
The apprentice will work under supervision and follow agreed processes.
This is a hybrid role based in Swindon. Note that 20% of working hours will be allocated to training, including classroom sessions, eLearning, self-directed study, shadowing, and project work.

Key Accountabilities
Meetings & Administration
- Assist with the organisation and delivery of boards, board committees, and senior management committee meetings:
- Prepare admin checklists
- Coordinate actions
- Schedule meetings, ensure attendees are informed of dates/times, and resolve diary conflicts/escalations
Compliance & Filings
- Maintain UK statutory company records
- Prepare Companies House filings for review to meet deadlines
- Ensure accuracy and confidentiality in corporate filing systems
Record-Keeping & Documentation
- Draft minutes and action logs for subsidiary company board meetings for review
- Collate, produce, and distribute board papers in electronic format, checking version control
- Update and maintain:
- Subsidiary Annual Reports and Financial Statements (in collaboration with senior teams)
- Terms of reference for committees (escalate proposed changes for approval)
- Maintain and update Openwork Group’s corporate structure charts (prompt and accurate updates)
Requirements to Succeed

- Commitment to studying towards Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) qualifications (or equivalent) as part of the apprenticeship.
- Interest in organisational governance and multi-company operations.
- Understanding of financial services regulatory requirements.
- Desirable previous experience:
- Administrative roles (placements, internships, or part-time work).
- Minute-taking (though not essential).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
