Governance Officer
Location: Hybrid working – Birmingham office at least 2 days per week Contract: Fixed-term (18 months), short-term project Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week) Salary: £33,000 per annum Grade: Grade 10 Job Reference: GOV14
About the Role
As a member of the Governance Team, this role is crucial in ensuring decision-making within the Gambling Commission is well-managed. You will:
- Support internal governance meetings and processes
- Contribute to the development of the governance function
- Work closely with the Board, Executive, Expert Groups, and colleagues
This is a key governance function, ensuring high standards in corporate governance, information management, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities
- Secretariat Support
- Provide administrative and planning support for internal meetings
- Schedule, organise, develop agendas, and collate and share meeting papers
- Record and follow up on accurate, timely minutes and actions

Engagement & Relationships
- Use communication skills to build and strengthen support across the Commission

- Work in a busy, deadline-driven environment to support decision-making

Internal Stakeholder Support
- Support the promotion of good governance practices
- Deliver training and awareness sessions as needed

Risk Management
- Lead the Governance risk register
- Collaborate with the Risk and Assurance team to share best practices

- Role-model fairness, professionalism, accountability, and collaboration

Reporting
- Support monthly and quarterly governance reports
- Develop internal reporting to enhance governance effectiveness
What We’re Looking For
Essential Criteria
-Solid understanding of fundamental governance principles -Experience in scheduling and planning meetings & events -Strong written and verbal communication skills -Ability to draft high-quality documents under pressure -Proficient in minuting with accuracy and speed -Capable of tracking actions and follow-ups -Comfortable handling sensitive information with discretion -Experience working with senior leaders required

Desirable Criteria
-Experience in a Governance or similar team -Support provided for senior leaders and executives -Familiarity with Board Management software
