Governance & Risk Manager

A not-for-profit in Uxbridge is seeking a Governance & Risk Manager to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of governance, risk, and assurance.

As Governance and Risk Manager based in Uxbridge, you will be responsible for driving excellence in risk, compliance & governance practices across the organisation. Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with both the Board and Senior Leadership Team to ensure that decision-making processes are transparent and accountable. You will take ownership of embedding compliance & risk management strategies that empower teams to act responsibly while maintaining compliance with legal obligations. By leading audit cycles and developing assurance frameworks, you will help strengthen organisational oversight. Your role also includes managing policies related to compliance and data protection-ensuring that every aspect of operations meets regulatory standards.

Success in this position requires you to foster a culture of trust through clear communication, mentoring your team members within the governance function, coordinating business systems for optimal performance, and proactively identifying areas for improvement through regular audits. You will be instrumental in creating an environment where everyone understands their role in upholding high standards of integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring effective governance practices are implemented throughout all levels of the organisation.
  • Embed practical approaches to risk management across teams, enabling colleagues to understand their responsibilities and make informed decisions.
  • Lead the development of compliance, governance, audit, and assurance functions to strengthen oversight and enhance organisational performance.
  • Oversee policy creation, compliance monitoring, and data protection arrangements to ensure obligations are met and high standards maintained.
  • Design, implement, and embed governance frameworks that reinforce trust with stakeholders and align with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage line reports within the governance function, providing guidance, mentorship, and development opportunities for team members.
  • Conduct internal audits across departments, using assurance activities to identify areas for improvement and drive performance.
  • Maintain strategic and operational risk registers, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, mitigated, and communicated effectively.
  • Act as Data Protection Officer by overseeing UK GDPR compliance and ensuring adherence to relevant legislation such as the Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Coordinate business systems management to support strong governance structures and facilitate seamless compliance processes.
