GP in Urgent Treatment Centre
Job Description: GP Appointment in Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC)
This is for the appointment of a new GP in our Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC). To confirm this vacancy is for candidates who are registered as a GP on the GMC register.
About the Role
Our Urgent Treatment Centre is co-located within the Emergency Departments (ED) at both Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells hospitals.
Candidates must be willing to work closely with our ED colleagues, to provide care for those with more minor presentations, as well as using appropriate urgent investigations (blood tests, imaging, ECG's), to further assess patients that may or may not require secondary care referral and to instigate initial management for these patients, when required.
It is desirable that the post holder has experience working autonomously, as a General Practitioner and is competent in interpreting chest radiographs and ECG’s. The Trust is able to support development of these skills and others, by offering a study budget and study leave.
The UTC offers appointments 24/7. Patients with minor injuries and urgent illnesses are assessed and treated by our team of GP’s, nurses and physiotherapists. 30-50% of all emergency department attendances are re-directed to our UTC team.
Our UTC clinics offer around 2000 appointments, between our sites, per week.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Specialist cancer services are a major focus. While upper GI cancer care for Kent and Medway is commissioned from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, and the regional hepatobiliary cancer service is delivered at King’s College Hospital, Maidstone plays a key role in local cancer care delivery. Advanced procedures, such as radiofrequency ablation of liver metastases, are performed on-site for a broad Kent-wide population. The hospital also hosts the Kent Cancer Centre—the fourth largest in the UK—serving patients from across the county. Strong road links support excellent regional access.
Tunbridge Wells Hospital
Tunbridge Wells Hospital, located in Pembury beside the A21, opened in January 2011 following a £230 million, three-year build. It was the first NHS hospital in the UK to feature all single, en-suite rooms across its main wards—enhancing patient privacy, sleep quality, and infection control. Most rooms benefit from natural light and forest views, supporting a more therapeutic recovery environment.
