# TPD Role – Thursday 2 Sessions Supporting ST1/ST2 LLR in the GP Training Programme (East Midlands)
About the Role
This Training Programme Director (TPD) role focuses on supporting Medical Training Programme Directors (MPD) and ensuring the best possible outcomes for ** foundation year 2 (FY2) trainees / Specialty Training 1 (ST1/ST2) trainees** with a particular focus the Thursday session.
The TPD will collaborate closely with trainees and local educators. While some teaching and pastoral support is involved, the primary responsibility is managing trainee education, including recruitment, programme design, safeguarding, rotations, and assessments.
Core Responsibilities

Recruitment & Induction:
- Work with education teams to support the recruitment and effective induction of trainees into the GP Training Programme.

Educational Programme Structure:
- Ensure balanced and quality rotations are organised across GP practices and educational providers.
- Oversee the trainee education programme, including both face-to-face and virtual delivery.

Assessment & Governance:
- Implement Appraisal & Revalidation (ARCP) processes and ensure trainees are assessed appropriately.
- Assist trainees and educators with any issues, delivering clear communication and addressing concerns.

Team Collaboration & Development:
- Partner with GP Trainers, Supervisors, and Senior Educators to drive forward educational innovation and high-quality provision.
- Support the development of training for school staff, faculty, doctor education for other primary care learners, and work with Training Hubs, NHS Trusts, and local education bodies.

Pastoral Support & Safe Working Environments:
- Foster a supportive environment while adhering to safeguarding procedures.

Strategic Alignment:
- Contribute to NHS aims such as improving patient care, reducing health inequalities, and ensuring high-quality NHS services.
Key Attributes
✔ Demonstrated capability in educational management within GP training (vested). ✔ Must provide clear evidence of at least 12 months experience at the GP00 grade—this typically includes:
- Festive training / GFY support, super/CSSD, or prior TPD/MD roles
- Educational responsibilities that met GP00 requirements
✔ Recognised as a role **iop (in oversight position)*. Note: ‘In oversight position’ refers to holders of an MPSD or TPD role overseeing multiple GP trainees and/or multiple GP training programmes.
Requirements for GP01 Pay Grade
To be appointed at GP01: Applicants must demonstrate full 12 months GP00 experience with clear evidence of relevant educational activity meeting GP00 requirements.

If insufficient evidence is provided: Appointment at GP00, with promotion to GP01 after successful completion of the GP01 year.
Contract & Working Location
📍 Primarily based in East Midlands but expect regular travel throughout the region. 🅿️ 2-session weekly contract, m-f office-based (initially). 📅 Term set until 31 March 2027.
Benefits & Additional Note
🔹 Remuneration: Exempt from NI payments and will be paid on the National GP Educator Pay Scale (GP00-GP01). GP guidance has recently been updated. Full details can be found here: [National GP educator pay scale](link to pay guide). 🔹 Integration: Successful applicants will undergo an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via ESR (Electronic Staff Record) during onboarding.
