GPS Survey Technician Position

Role Overview

Saiia Construction Company LLC, a MasTec company, is hiring for a GPS Survey Technician to join our team for a multi-year project with a well-known energy company. The Survey Technician will be responsible for performing land surveys to measure land and natural features, essential for creating topographical maps of project sites.

Location & Travel: Onsite – Wilsonville, AL

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with jobsite personnel to prepare surveying sites as needed.
  • Unload, set up, operate survey equipment, including Total Station, Prism, Level, GPS base/Rover, and load it afterward.
  • Place grade stakes with details like station number, offsets, cut/fill, and elevations at survey points.
  • Set and adjust total station, prism, or GPS equipment, gathering horizontal coordinates and vertical elevation data.
  • Measure distances between survey points, recording data for use in surveying software programs.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain equipment, performing repairs or replacements when needed.
  • Collect digital data from equipment and integrate it into survey software.
  • Monitor excavating activities for proper stake reference adherence and report deviations to operators or supervisors.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as project requirements evolve.

Qualifications

Required

  • In-depth knowledge of:
    • Topographic surveys
    • Civil construction drawings, specifications, profiles, and details
    • Construction surveying techniques
    • Layout for water/sewer/storm drainage projects
  • Proficiency in computer systems, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Detail-oriented with problem-solving skills for non-standard scenarios.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Exceptional written/verbal communication.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently/within teams.
  • Adaptability to frequent task changes due to project needs.
  • Capacity to manage company information via email, smartphone, tablet, or computer.
  • Competence in reading and interpreting safety rules, instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.

Preferred

  • Advanced understanding of surveying mathematics, data adjustment, surface modeling, data quality analysis.
  • AutoCAD proficiency at a basic operational level.
