Summary

This Level 7 Graduate Solicitor Apprenticeship (30 month) provides a practice focused law course, combining academic modules with continuous and embedded development of the skills and attributes required by the legal profession. This course is tailored towards Law graduates.

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

The overall purpose of this role is to support assigned departments in the provision of efficient legal services to clients whilst undertaking professional legal training to gain qualifying work experience and the competency to practice as a solicitor.

After This Apprenticeship

On successful completion of the programme, you will be able to apply for admission and practice as a qualified solicitor in your chosen field.

The Role

  • Provide a general and confidential support service to the department and assist with general legal enquiries.
  • Deal with first line enquiries made in person, by phone and by email, taking instructions and advising clients in relation to costs.
  • Help with the organisation and co-ordination of formal court documentation and bundles for court hearings.
  • Draft simple legal documents using standard templates and with legal guidance.
  • Assist with the maintenance and accuracy of the Legal case management system and file keeping.
  • Complete accurate time recording, both chargeable and non-chargeable.
  • Assist with client interviews.
  • Gain understanding of client expectations and requirements.
  • Conduct legal research and assess legal problems.
  • Meet deadlines.
  • Gain competency in the SRA skills standards.
  • Keep up to date with training and law and practice.

Training

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE English Language - Grade 6 or above
  • GCSE Mathematics - Grade 6 or above
  • 3 A Levels - Grades ABB
  • Law Degree - 2:1

Skills & Experience

  • Excellent IT skills, experience with all Microsoft Office packages
  • Willingness to learn
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Training provider entry requirements for the assigned apprenticeship course are satisfied as a minimum
  • Ability to work as part of a team
