Job Description

At AECOM, one of our key business lines is Bridges, which is currently expanding due to a number of recent high-profile project wins, further broadening our already impressive portfolio. We are looking for ambitious, hardworking, enthusiastic Civil & Structural Engineering graduates who have strong computational, mathematical, and design skills. Candidates will work on diverse projects ranging from concept design to implementation for clients operating locally, nationally, or internationally. Successful applicants must demonstrate a focus on delivering results to clients while benefiting from technically challenging projects.

As leaders in our sector, our Bridges teams provide wide-ranging and challenging opportunities in an ever-evolving industry. With an undisputed global position, these roles could involve:

  • Designing UK and international projects based in our offices in London, Madrid, Italy, the United States, and the Middle East.
  • Assessing and maintaining the current UK bridge network.
  • Proposing renewal or structural works for existing UK bridges.

Job Responsibilities

Graduates will contribute to the full range of design work, from inception to completion. This includes the assessment of existing structures through various stages—such as on-site inspections and analysis—as well as responsibility management and task oversight within structural schemes. Qualifications

  • Degree:

    • A BEng in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a 2:1 (or equivalent) classification or above.
    • A MEng or MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering would be beneficial.
  • Experience & Modules:

    • Experience or course modules in Structural Engineering or Bridge Engineering preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge:

    • Ability to demonstrate a strong technical understanding of Civil & Structural Engineering.
  • Career Aspirations:

    • Demonstrated interest in Bridge Structures Engineering and a commitment to building a career in the industry.
    • Willingness and ability to work towards Chartership with the ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers) or ISructE (Institution of Structural Engineers).
  • Computer Skills:

    • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Communication Skills:

    • Competence in effective communication with internal and external clients, both verbally and in writing, including the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders—such as clients, colleagues, project partners, and subcontractors—and explain technical issues concisely.
  • Attitude:

    • Enthusiastic, hard-working, with ambition and drive.
  • Work Style:

    • Balancing collaborative teamwork with independent focus.
    • Ability to structure and prioritise tasks efficiently.
