Job Description

Role At AECOM, one of our key business lines is Bridges, which is currently expanding due to recent high-profile project wins, adding to our already impressive portfolio. We are seeking ambitious, hardworking, and enthusiastic Civil & Structural Engineering graduates with computational, mathematical, and design skills.

Candidates will work on a variety of projects, from concept design to implementation, for clients operating locally, nationally, or internationally. Selected individuals will be focused on delivering results to clients while finding enjoyment in technically challenging projects.

As leaders in the sector, our Bridges teams offer diverse, stimulating opportunities in an ever-evolving industry. Our global position allows you to work on the design of UK or international projects, including:

  • Undertaking assessments and maintenance of the current UK bridge network
  • Proposing renewal of structural works for the current UK bridge network
  • Collaborating with other disciplines within AECOM to provide quality, innovative, and sustainable solutions using the latest technology in civil & structural engineering
  • Developing excellence, agility, perseverance, communication, forward-thinking, and global awareness—key skills demanded by our teams to maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

  • Jodrell Bank Telescope

Job Responsibilities

Successful candidates will use industry-leading computer software while working on bridge-specific expertise, including:

  • Structural Design
  • Bridge Assessment
  • Finite Elements Analysis
  • Structural Inspections
  • Structures Renewal Feasibility Studies
  • On-site Works Supervision
  • Scheme Management

Graduates will be expected to:

  • Contribute to the design of structures from inception to completion
  • Undertake the assessment of existing structures across multiple stages such as on-site inspection and analysis
  • Manage resources and tasks within schemes of structures

AECOM is committed to developing graduates, providing mobility between projects and gradually increasing responsibility within the firm.


Qualifications Requirements

  • BEng in Civil or Structural Engineering with a 2:1 classification (or equivalent) or above
  • MEng or MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering — advantageous
  • Structural modules or Structural/Bridge Engineering experience — advantageous
  • Good technical understanding of Civil & Structural Engineering
  • Demonstrable interest in Bridge Structures Engineering and commitment to a career in this industry
  • Willingness and ability to work towards Chartership with the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) or Institute of Structural Engineers (ISructE)
  • Essential proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with internal/external clients, clients, colleagues, stakeholders, and sub-contractors—capable of explaining, discussing, and capturing feedback on technical issues
  • Enthusiastic, hardworking, ambitious, and motivated individual
  • Ability to structure and prioritise work effectively through team collaboration
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining initiative and focus
