What we do

At IDC, we innovate to create successful products which improve people’s lives. With over 50 years of experience as a design consultancy developing market-leading products in medical, consumer and industrial sectors, we serve a range of clients from multinational brands to cutting edge start-ups.

Our clients benefit from a full range of product development services including user research, industrial design, mechanical engineering, detailed design for manufacture, electronics engineering, software development, testing, prototyping and production. Our team collaborate to ensure we design commercial, technically robust and desirable products for our clients.

Our studio is right by the train station in Datchet which is 50mins from London Waterloo, 35mins from Putney and a 2 mile walk from Windsor. We also have parking available. The role is mainly studio-based but with flexibility to work from home. We also provide flexible working hours.

Every member of the team has their own Skills & Training Register to monitor development across a broad spectrum of skills. We also support all Design Engineers to progress from Certified SolidWorks Professional to Certified SolidWorks Expert which includes 10 exams in total.

What you would be doing

  • Creative and technical idea generation based on preliminary research and sound engineering principles
  • Detailed design from concept to production with high attention to detail
  • 3D CAD modelling (SolidWorks)
  • Design of proof of principle test rigs & assembly jigs
  • Managing prototype production and testing to prove out principles and production solutions
  • Liaising with different manufacturers and suppliers to ensure solutions are easily transferred into production
  • Interfacing with clients from report generation and presenting ideas to demonstrating your production-ready solutions
  • Help us identify how we could improve - as that is a key element on how we’ve achieved so much over the past years

What we need from you

  • 0-2 years of experience
  • 1st or 2:1 degree in Product/Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Creative problem solving with an aptitude for researching and applying different technologies
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Strong analytical skills including performing engineering calculations
  • Ideally experience of electronics integration i.e., specifying motors, pumps, batteries etc
  • Having a keen, pro-active and flexible approach
  • Good presentation and communication skills
  • Strong CAD Skills – solid & surface modelling as well as 2D technical drawing creation preferably using SolidWorks
  • You will be expected to present a portfolio of work during interview if selected
