The Duchy of Cornwall
The Duchy of Cornwall is a future-focused organisation, passionate about delivering transformative change through creating healthy, thriving communities and ecosystems in the places it operates. The Duchy now seeks a Graduate Development Surveyor to join the team at Nansledan, one of the UK’s most ambitious development projects, and gain hands-on experience across the full development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the Development Director to maximise commercial returns and supporting with cashflows and budgets, including research, data and analysis.
- Helping to maximise social impact across Nansledan, promoting initiatives that drive employment opportunities such as apprenticeships and ensuring housing solutions are aligned with local housing needs.
- Creating access to culture, nature and connection and supporting the health and wellbeing of the community, measuring the impact of these initiatives in accordance with wider Duchy frameworks and through resident surveys and feedback.
- Supporting the Development Director in forming a strategy for all operational and embodied carbon improvements (with the objective to deliver net zero by 2032), working in partnership with housebuilders, external consultants and colleagues across the Duchy.
- Supporting with the negotiation of development agreements, including all commercial, planning and legal processes, to successfully deliver a phasing programme for Nansledan’s residential phases.
- Delivering a new 150-home Build to Rent portfolio in Nansledan, including acquisitions from development partners and the delivery of bespoke BTR phases.
- Supporting with the delivery of Nansledan’s emerging “Market Street”, including design, planning, and working with the Property team to ensure successful management of the Duchy’s retained commercial portfolio to curate a vibrant mix of businesses, events and initiatives.
- Managing other key projects across Nansledan, including a proposed GP Surgery, one or two care homes, later living opportunities, and a series of leisure opportunities.
- Supporting the day-to-day management of Nansledan’s landscape and estate management contracts, ensuring a highly positive ongoing relationship between the Duchy, the management company, resident Directors and the residents themselves.
- Taking responsibility for the project’s marketing and events programme and nurturing a growing community events calendar.

Skills and Experience
- A degree in a development-related discipline with a good understanding of the development project lifecycle, from feasibility to planning to delivery to occupation.
- A passion for design, placemaking and the opportunity to create modern, thriving, healthy communities and places.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- A strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong commercial acumen, including appraisal and investment analysis.
- Experience providing research/data/benchmarking support.
- A confident negotiator with a highly proactive and adaptable approach and a can-do attitude.
- Motivation to use business as a vehicle for social and environmental impact.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
- A high degree of professionalism, discretion and integrity.
- An interest in urban–rural land use and the opportunity to link food to fork through retail, education and tourism.

Salary: £34,000 per annum.
Contract: Permanent, full-time (35 hours per week).
