Graduate Structural Engineer – Glastonbury
About The Role
Gateley Smithers Purslow are recruiting for a full-time Graduate Structural Engineer to join their expanding team in Glastonbury.
This dynamic role offers support to the Engineering Line Manager and involves handling projects within your defined area of responsibility. Successful candidates must demonstrate ambition, professionalism, customer service skills and align with the company’s values through clear communication and teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of professional reports, calculations, designs and drawings
- Providing technical advice to our clients
- Obtaining necessary planning and building regulations approvals
- Monitoring and inspecting contractors’ site work
- Liaising with architecture and other engineering professionals
- Maintaining strong client relationships through excellent customer service
- Administering contracts and managing project delivery
- Conducting site inspections and property surveys
- Ensuring projects comply with CDM 2015, Part L, Part M, and listed building regulations
- Assessing projects for sustainability and environmental impact
- Adherence to company administrative policies, personnel procedures and H&S regulations

Person Specification
Applicants must demonstrate:
✔ Relevant degree: BSc (Hons) or MSc in structural engineering or equivalent, accredited by GMIstructE or GMICE (IStructE/ICE). ✔ Working knowledge of civil engineering consultancy, surveying, architecture, and construction legislation. ✔ Experience meeting deadlines & budgets. ✔ Strong mathematical, scientific and IT skills. ✔ Ability to analyse, problem-solve and manage projects independently. ✔ Exemplary communication skills (verbal and written). ✔ Understanding of relevant UK legislation. ✔ Valid UK driving licence (essential for site visits).
