Central Alliance, part of the RSK Group, has a new opportunity for a Graduate Engineer to join their team in Wakefield, UK.
The Role
The role is based out of the Wakefield Office, West Yorkshire. This is a Hybrid role, approximately ~80% Site based, which requires working away from home and staying away on some nights. When not on site, you will be required to commute daily to the Wakefield office, so we are ideally looking for someone that lives within a reasonable daily commuting distance of the office, or someone that is willing to relocate.
Accountable to the Senior Engineering team, this role would suit someone with a passion for travel and the outdoors, with an enthusiastic, ‘can-do’ attitude. We are seeking someone who is looking to be upskilled in order to gain autonomy in role within the geotechnical / engineering field, working for a forward-thinking, rapidly expanding company that invests in the learning and development of its people.
As the successful candidate, you will sit within the Instrumentation & Monitoring division, where you will be exposed to extensive collective experience within the organisation, the latest technology and leading academic research. Your work, experience and inputs will be helping to find solutions to industry challenges and problems.
Accountabilities
- Collecting, processing and managing monitoring data from a wide range of geotechnical instrumentation on site (full training provided).
- Assisting with or leading on site installation and monitoring projects, ensuring work is delivered safely, on time, and to specification.
- Assisting with project deliverables, project performance and SHEQ information (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality).
- Upholding excellent safety and housekeeping standards, representing our company professionally on every site.
- Assisting with the maintenance and organisation of the yard and storage areas, including arranging, sorting, picking and delivery of soil and groundwater samples.
- Undertaking monitoring equipment calibration, repair and servicing when necessary.
- Supported by the company, maintain and develop technical knowledge, such as British Standards and industry standards.
- Undertaking internal and external training, as part of personal professional development plan.
- Working across the UK to travel to client sites, as and when required.
- Adhere to all RSK company policies and adhere to client policies and procedures when on site.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
