Role Details

There is an excellent opportunity to join the Engineering team as a Graduate Engineer. As an integral part of the Edinburgh Trams engineering team, you will join our newly created engineering graduate scheme that will give you engineering experience managing tram vehicles, systems, power, traction, and infrastructure maintenance. In your first year, you will gain an understanding of the following areas within the engineering department.

Contractor

  • CAF: Tram maintenance and repairs
  • Siemens: Systems, rail, OLE, and traction power
  • BUK: Civils and depot infrastructure
  • Authority to Work processes: Controlling works on or near the tramway

Upon completion of your first year, you will be placed in a post to suit your skills and to meet the business needs.

Initially, your contract will be for a fixed term of 3 years, but there will be an opportunity to be offered a permanent post provided you have met your performance objectives and meet business needs at the time. This would allow you to continue to gain experience, which would also be reflected in your salary. Annual salary progression would follow our management pay scales, potentially up to an annual salary of £50,000.

Key Responsibilities

  • The post holder will assist in the management and maintenance of the tram and infrastructure engineering systems. This will involve detailed monitoring and control of planned and reactive maintenance work, along with the necessary approvals and certification of work for payment purposes on a 4 weekly period basis. This will involve close budget monitoring and approval of any changes to the maintenance plans.
  • Working in partnership with the engineering team to effectively and efficiently manage, measure, and improve maintenance activities.
  • Assist in operational incidents and events, and any other duties that may be associated with the main tasks of the post, as required.

The Role

The role is full-time, 40 hours a week, working 5 days over 7 days, predominately Monday to Friday although occasional night-time/weekend working will be required.

About You

Minimum requirements for this role are:

  • You must have a relevant degree (mechanical or civil engineering) with a minimum Grade of 2:1.
  • You must be a graduate member of a relevant professional body.
  • You will have a flexible approach to work and tasks, with the ability to cope with competing demands and deadlines.
  • You will have strong written communication skills with experience of producing management information and reports.
  • Have a valid UK driver’s licence with one year’s UK driving experience.
