Graduate Estimator

The Role

We are seeking a Graduate Estimator to join our Commercial team, supporting the preparation of cost estimates and tender submissions across defence, nuclear and infrastructure programmes. This role offers structured development and hands-on experience across estimating, commercial, and project controls, working alongside experienced professionals on live bids and projects. You will gain exposure to cost modelling, risk analysis and commercial decision-making, building strong foundations for a long-term career in commercial management or estimating.

Accountabilities

Estimating & Bid Support

  • Support development of cost estimates and pricing models for complex programmes
  • Analyse tender documentation to understand scope, risks and assumptions
  • Assist with cost build-ups (labour, materials, subcontractors, overheads)
  • Contribute to bid reviews, pricing discussions and submission preparation
  • Review and support evaluation of supplier and subcontractor quotations

Commercial & Project Controls

  • Assist with cost models, cashflow forecasting and lifecycle cost analysis
  • Support risk assessments and contingency modelling
  • Analyse historic project data to identify cost drivers and trends
  • Contribute to post-bid reviews and lessons learned

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work with project managers, SMEs and procurement teams to support bids
  • Participate in internal meetings and support client engagement activities

Development

  • Complete a structured graduate development programme
  • Work towards relevant professional accreditation (e.g. RICS)
  • Build an understanding of industry contracting frameworks

Experience Requirements

  • Strong numerical and analytical capability
  • Commercial awareness and interest in project delivery
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; interest in data tools (e.g. Power BI)
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to work to deadlines
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Proactive, curious and eager to learn

Desirable

  • Internship or placement in engineering, construction, defence or consultancy
  • Exposure to estimating, cost planning or project controls
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts or government procurement
  • Experience with data tools (Power BI, SQL, VBA)

Qualifications/Certifications Requirements

  • Degree (minimum 2:1) in a numerate or business-related discipline (e.g. Quantity Surveying, Maths, Economics, Finance)
  • Due to the nature of the projects we work on, restrictions relating to UK residency and nationality will apply. This includes having a minimum of five years’ continuous residency in the UK and holding sole British nationality.
