Graduate Grid Engineer
Graduate Grid Engineer
At RES, we want you to work to make Power for Good.
We're the world's largest independent renewable energy company, guided by a vision: to create a future where everyone has access to affordable, zero-carbon energy. Our ambitions couldn’t be achieved without our people—the best minds in power solving the world’s toughest energy challenges. We invest heavily in growth, offering rewarding opportunities, learning from a global network of inspiring colleagues, and career development at every stage.
About the Role
In the UK and Ireland, our renewable energy projects increasingly depend on a resilient, networked grid—which becomes even more crucial as we accelerate towards Net Zero. As a Graduate Grid Engineer, you’ll play a critical role across all phases of project development, from inception to energisation, by supporting grid engineering aspects.
You’ll work hybrid, based at one of our offices (Gateshead, Kings Langley, Glasgow, or Larne) with close support from senior team members. To fuel your continuous development within grid engineering, you’ll gain hands-on experience in:
- Grid feasibility assessments for new project sites
- Analysing and interpreting network datasets for key decision-making
- Cost estimating for substations and interconnections
- Managing grid connection liabilities and assessing risk exposure
- Preparing technical appendices (Single Line Diagrams, fault calculations) for grid applications
- Supporting substation layouts (33kV–400kV) and Grid Code / G99 compliance
- Engendering connections and ensuring timely project energisation

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
