Graduate Highways Engineer – London (Farringdon)

Location: London (Hybrid/Flexible Working Available) Salary: £25,000 – £30,000 per annum + performance bonus + excellent benefits Type: Full-time

This opportunity allows you to grow within a highly collaborative team, contributing to urban highway, public realm, and transport infrastructure projects across London and the UK.

Responsibilities

As a Graduate Highways Engineer, you will:

  • Support the design and delivery of urban highway and public realm schemes, collaborating with senior engineers and project teams.
  • Gain exposure to end-to-end project workflows, from concept design through detailed design and construction, enhancing both technical and commercial understanding of engineering consultancy.
  • Assist in:
    • Technical design of highways, junctions, and infrastructure;
    • Producing design drawings (primarily AutoCAD, with exposure to Civil 3D as appropriate);
    • Design calculations, reports, and technical documentation;
    • Development-related infrastructure (including S278 highway schemes);
    • Multidisciplinary teamwork to deliver coordinated engineering solutions.
  • Engage in project meetings and site visits to build practical engineering knowledge.
  • Contribute to high-quality, sustainable designs under the guidance of senior colleagues.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Genuine interest in highways, transportation, and urban infrastructure design.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and team-working skills.
  • AutoCAD knowledge (or willingness to develop proficiency);
  • Understanding of highways engineering principles, gained through:
    • University studies,
    • Placement experience, or
    • Industry work.
  • Profiles outside, but not essential: Exposure to Civil 3D, drainage design, or related project experience.

Optional: Commitment towards professional accreditations through ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers), CIHT (Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation), or a similar body.
