Description
Job Title: Graduate Submarines Human Factors Engineer
Location: Barrow (Cumbria). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – however for this role you will be expected to attend your site 5 days per week.
Salary: £34,000 Per Annum + £2,000 Welcome Bonus

Role Description
You’ll work together with submariners, operators, and engineers to understand the challenges they face when designing and building submarines. You will be assessing workload and situation awareness to optimise operator performance, alongside planning and conducting user trials to assess developing design and optimise user interaction. You will also be involved with developing and understanding Human Computer Interaction, assessing Human Machine Interfaces. Using measurements of the human body when assessing spatial layout design, including working with 3D CAD tools, immersive VR, and constructing full scale mock-ups and providing human reliability analysis and human factors support to site safety cases.

Core Duties
Apply an understanding of cognitive and physical characteristics, task breakdown, workload, and situation awareness to ensure user performance and safety are not compromised. Conduct, analyse, and interpret trials and assessments to provide data‑based conclusions that inform and influence design decisions. Work with suppliers, cross‑functional teams, and stakeholders to develop solutions, review technical information, and confirm designs meet required outcomes. Analyse and evaluate machine and computer interface design options to ensure they are intuitive, task‑focused, and safe in line with user needs. Review environmental and contextual factors to understand how task conditions impact human performance.

Qualification Requirements
You must have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a minimum 2:2 bachelor’s degree or a pass at master’s level in the following subject: Human Factors
