Role: Mapping & Consultancy – Junior GIS Surveyor/Geomatics Professional

About the Role

This is a chance to develop a professional career in mapping and consultancy, offering full support and training within a well-established survey team. You’ll handle diverse survey projects across the UK while contributing meaningfully and evolving your skills in a collaborative environment.


At SLR and Our Team

SLR’s Land Survey team delivers geomatic surveying nationwide, supporting industries including:

  • Topographical surveying for minerals/waste operators
  • Residential and commercial developers
  • Civil, petrochemical, and power engineering firms
  • Site surveys, setting-out, and design work

The team excels in bridging client needs with high-quality digital solutions, ensuring consistency and professionalism.

This team sits within our larger Geospatial & Data Solutions group, allowing growth in intersections of:

  • CAD (Computer-Aided Design)
  • GIS (Geographic Information Systems)
  • Data Science
  • Software development

This integration expands workforce versatility and training opportunities.


The Opportunity

We’re recruiting a resourceful, self-starting individual to join either our Nottingham or Newcastle office. This role involves both office-based and site work (potentially UK-wide for up to one week per assignment).

Key Requirements

  • A full UK driving licence
  • Software proficiency in Ordnance Survey mapping and online mapping tools
  • Currently studying, or holding a degree, in Surveying or Geomatics

Responsibilities

  • Assist surveyors in diverse UK fieldwork projects, adhering to project briefs and specifications
  • Develop independence in project execution, progressing to full responsibility for delivering surveys as skills improve.
  • Post-field tasks:
    • Process and produce survey plans in LSS and AutoCAD
    • Conduct volumetric calculations and generate technical reports

About You

Essential Skills/Experience

  • 0–2 years of surveying experience, including use of:
    • GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems)
    • Total stations (surveying instruments)
  • Proficiency with:
    • AutoCAD
    • LSS (Land Survey Software/London Surveyor’s Software)
    • n4ce (optional)
    • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Emotional attributes:
    • Self-motivation and hard work
    • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Flexibility:
    • Full-time UK driving licence
    • Ability to work in challenging outdoor environments (difficult terrain, any UK location)
    • Adaptability to volume-based workloads with demanding timelines

Desirable (but not essential) Additional Skills

  • Processing data from Laser Scans (Register360)
  • Drone data handling using DJI Terra or Pix4D
  • Familiarity with QGIS
  • Experience with RD8000 Radio Detection technology
  • Drone piloting competence
